Meet Limin Cui, Chief Representative, Nevion China

Welcome to our newest series of Q&A with the Architects! At Nevion, we’re proud of our people and we have built up a great global team of professionals, with knowledge and expertise in broadcasting, telecoms, IT, hardware, software, baseband and IP network technology.

In this new series, we wanted to give you the chance to get to know some of our Architects personally.

What attracted you to join Nevion as part of your career journey and what is your current role?

I originally came across the Nevion name back in 2004 when I visited the NAB [National Association of Broadcasters] Show in the US, where they showcased their products and technology. Nevion was then involved in the broadcasting of the Beijing Olympics in 2008 with part of my efforts , which caught my eye again, and in January 2011, I proudly joined the company and have now been part of the team for the past ten years. My current role is Chief Representative for Nevion’s Chinese market in Beijing.

How has your role progressed whilst you’ve been at Nevion?

Although my job title of Chief Representative has remained the same during my time at the organization, I’ve been given plenty of opportunities to progress and learn new skills. My role originally was more involved in communication between our factory premises, the research & development department and our customers. In my role today, I’m also involved in administrative functions, sales and marketing, and support, while also being able to learn basic technical and engineering skills.

How would you describe your role at Nevion in just three words?

The three words I would choose to describe Nevion are unique, agile and cooperative. One of Nevion’s unique products, VideoIPath, has been successful on a global scale, while the organization is agile and flexible in its operations. In the times that I’ve been based in China, during my time with the business, I’ve always been able to cooperate remotely with the headquarters in Norway. They’re always on hand to support me whenever I need help.

What interested you about working in the broadcast industry?

I enjoy taking on new challenges, so I’ve always found the broadcast industry appealing due to how the technology evolves and changes at a rapid pace. Being involved in successful large-scale projects that have led to customer satisfaction has also been a source of pride and has only enhanced my passion for the industry.

Can you tell us about a project you have worked on during your time at Nevion that you are most proud of?

There are almost too many to mention, but one that especially comes to mind in recent years was Nevion’s involvement in the broadcast of the National Day Parade in 2019. An important day in the Chinese calendar, the event marked the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, and was the first and largest scale application of TICO 4K encoding and decoding technology in the world. I was proud to be involved in such a high-profile event.

What is your favorite thing about working for Nevion?

While Nevion is of course a business first and foremost, at the core of its culture is a sense of family amongst colleagues. We’ve always cooperated effectively and continue to support each other closely on all the projects we collaborate on. This established culture makes working at the business an enjoyable and fun experience.

What new innovation excites you the most in the broadcasting world?

The way that IP and virtualization technology is evolving is especially exciting. The potential for resources, devices and talent to be shared is groundbreaking for the industry as a whole, and allows for revolutionary change across entire workflows. This will lead to greater efficiencies, lower costs, higher flexibility and adaptability across the wider field of media. Nevion is also playing its part in industry innovation by continuously working to enhance and adapt its VideoIPath offering, collaborating closely with our creative teams to further benefit the industry and provide sustainable services with technical support for our customers.
