Working at Nevion – Q&A with Jenny Aune Forbord
Meet Jenny Aune Forbord, Embedded Software Engineer for the Virtuoso team at Nevion in Norway.
We’re back with a new entry in our ‘Q&A with the Architects’ series. In this edition, we spoke with Jenny Aune Forbord, who took her first steps in the broadcast industry when she joined the Nevion team in 2023. In this blog, Jenny discusses how an initial meeting at a careers day kickstarted her Nevion journey, the way the team have supported her to learn about the sector and her pride from working on an audio mixer project.
What attracted you to join Nevion as part of your career journey and what is your role there now?
I completed my master’s degree in electronics in July 2023 and I met the Nevion team during a career day while I was working on my thesis. Nevion stood out because of its innovative technology and intelligent team. Also, I’d had some exposure to image and signal processing from academia, so that aligned well with the company and it felt like a great match. I’m an Embedded Software Engineer for our Virtuoso team.
How has your role progressed whilst you’ve been at Nevion?
It’s been a year, so I wouldn’t say my role has progressed significantly yet, but I’ve definitely learned a lot. I came in with little industry experience, and the learning curve has been steep, but Nevion has provided me with many opportunities to be a part of different projects. That’s been really exciting.
What three words would you use to describe Nevion?
I would say inclusive, innovative and knowledgeable. From day one, I’ve felt very included and seen by the rest of the team, which has really helped me to settle in. The team is also really innovative. There are a lot of smart minds here with fresh ideas on how to use our technology in lots of different ways. Lastly, everyone is really knowledgeable in their field. If I have a question, I can ask anyone and they will likely know the answer. If they don’t, they definitely know someone who does!
What interested you about working in the broadcast industry?
Like many other people, I grew up watching television, and it got me wondering how it all worked behind the scenes. Now that I’m part of the Nevion team, it’s great to dive into the technology and understand the production processes that bring content to life.
Can you tell us about a project you have worked on during your time at Nevion that you are most proud of?
One of the first projects I got involved with after joining Nevion was working on an audio mixer function for Virtuoso. It was great to get acquainted with the code and understand how it works. I was involved in that for about three months and it was really interesting to see how my work can help to form a functional and valuable technology solution.
What is your favorite thing about working for Nevion?
The people here are really smart, kind and approachable. Every person I’ve crossed paths with in the hallway is really interesting, and there is just so much knowledge and passion in every part of the business. Everyone wants to help each other and any challenges are always solved as a team, which makes for a really positive environment. It feels like I’m part of a family.
What new technology/ innovation excites you the most in the broadcasting world?
Since I’m new to the industry, I’m still learning about a lot of exciting technologies, but I’d say virtual reality (VR) and artificial intelligence (AI) are particularly interesting. Even though they aren’t directly related to what we work on, it’s fascinating to think how VR could shape the viewer experience and how Nevion could leverage AI in the future, such as in task automation.
