Working at Nevion – Q&A with Ole Kristian Gran Haga

Meet Ole Kristian Gran Haga, Head of Accounting & Controlling at Nevion.
In this edition of our ‘Q&A with the Architects’ series, we spoke with Ole Kristian Gran Haga, Nevion’s Head of Accounting & Controlling. New to the broadcasting world, Ole shares what he has learnt about the industry and Nevion since joining in 2024, his professional development journey with the help of Sony resources, and why he values the company’s flexible working policy.
What attracted you to join Nevion as part of your career journey and what is your role there now?
If I’m being honest, Nevion and the broadcast industry were completely new concepts to me before I went to the interview. With my background from auditing and other financial functions, I got the impression that the role at Nevion was a good fit for me. My role is Head of Accounting & Controlling.
How has your role progressed whilst you’ve been at Nevion?
I’ve only been at Nevion for a little over a year so I wouldn’t say my role has evolved that much, but I’ve learned a lot about the company and the industry. I’ve had the opportunity to attend several courses run by Sony.
What three words would you use to describe Nevion?
The three words I would use to sum up Nevion are the people, culture and innovation. All the people here are very open and inclusive. It is the people in the company that make this such a great place to work. My colleagues have a wide range of expertise and are willing to share their knowledge.
What interested you about working in the broadcast industry?
My initial motivation for joining the industry was probably a bit different to that of many colleagues due to my specialism in finance, but I’ve already learned so much during my time here. What’s important to me is finding out which solutions are in development, the benefits they bring to the market, and the potential impact they may have on our financial performance.
Can you tell us about a project you have worked on during your time at Nevion that you are most proud of?
A major part of my role is to continually deliver financial reporting to Sony by specific deadlines. This is vital for compliance and transparency in how Nevion is performing. I’m proud that we always meet that obligation.
What is your favorite thing about working for Nevion?
The flexibility really suits my lifestyle. I’m a dad of young children and a football coach, so I’m very busy outside of work! There’s freedom to work from home or in the office, and I can adjust my hours to suit my week. Working late hours has often been part of the territory in the type of work I do. However, Nevion has taken every step to accommodate a healthy work-life balance. Nevion’s people are also friendly and supportive. I recently visited the Gdańsk office in Poland and I received the same warmth that I do in our Norway offices. It’s a global community!
What new technology/ innovation excites you the most in the broadcasting world?
Since I am not directly involved in the development of new technology, I do not have insight into everything we develop. But I have come to understand how Nevion is involved in the IP transmission of signals and how it makes the production of live broadcasts both cheaper and of better quality.
