Contribution – backhaul in the U.S. – has always been a challenge for broadcasters. In the early days, most of the engineering effort in a remote broadcast went toward creating the wireless links back to the studio. Fortunately, dealing with the Telcos became less of a burden because they often could be avoided with new technology. The first adopted solution was line-of-sight microwave systems. That technology subsequently gave way to satellites, but each called for carefully positioned (and expensive) additional vehicles on-site–along with a trained operator. Click to read the full article…
