Nevion solution helps AMV stream Pope’s historic visit to US

Nevion, a leader in transporting media from the camera to the home, assisted All Mobile Video (AMV) in ensuring the live streaming of the Pope’s historic visit to the US in September went off smoothly.
AMV, a premier provider of end-to-end video and audio solutions, is based in New York and has been a Nevion customer for the past six years. AMV uses a combination of Nevion solutions — including media gateways and compression products — to transport coverage of events such as NFL Monday Night Football, the Metropolitan Opera, and Times Square New Year’s Eve broadcast.
AMW was awarded the contract to supply the pool feed for the Pope’s visit and used a combination of the NX4600 H.264/AVC and VS901 JPEG2000 media gateway products to stream live coverage over IP to its facility in New Jersey for uplink to satellite.
“The Nevion products performed flawlessly,” says Mike Carberry, VP Transmission Services, AMV Gateway. “The J2K feeds were compressed to around 100Mbps and the H.264 to around 20Mbps.
“Overall, we’ve had a great relationship with Nevion and know that the products provided will meet our requirements and help us meet our project goals. We particularly like the high-density, modular design of the NX4600 media gateway, as well as the licensable encoding/decoding and built-in monitoring capabilities.”
All major broadcasters shared AMV’s feed of the Pope’s visit, including ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN and FOX.
