Working at Nevion – Q&A with Daria Valter

Meet Daria Valter, Network Operations Support Engineer, in Poland.
This time in our ‘Q&A with the Architects’ series, we had a chat with Daria Valter, one of our Network Operations Support Engineers, about her experiences at Nevion. Daria spoke of her childhood interest in how broadcasting worked, the connections she has made with our customers and the superhero skills that engineers need to be successful!
What attracted you to join Nevion as part of your career journey and what is your role there now?
I first joined Nevion in 2022 as a Network Operations Support Engineer. The workings of the broadcast sector were completely new to me at the time – my background is in IT – but the recruiter’s glowing description of the company convinced me to join. It was all totally new technology, devices and standards, which made it exciting, but a little daunting as well. However, the people around me were incredibly supportive and really helped me understand how it all worked.
How has your role progressed whilst you’ve been at Nevion?
In 2023, I moved from my original job at Nevion to Sony to take on a Field Specialist Engineer opportunity, which was a great experience, but I felt like I had unfinished business at Nevion, so I returned to my previous job in January 2026. An opportunity opened up as the engineering team was expanding and it felt really good to be back with the Nevion family.
What words would you use to describe Nevion?
I would describe Nevion as friendly and full of curiosity. When I think about my own role, I like to use the analogy of superheroes to summarize the different skills that our engineers need to be successful. We need to be as fast as The Flash to react quickly to changes, as wise as Iron Man to apply strong technical knowledge and a master investigator like Sherlock Holmes to carefully analyze and troubleshoot any issues. Doing the role well involves an ideal mix of speed, technical expertise and investigative skills.
What interested you about working in the broadcast industry?
When I was a child, I was amazed at how a newsreader could remember all their words! It felt magical. I didn’t know about an autocue or the many processes happening behind the camera, but I was curious to learn how it worked. Now, I have a much deeper understanding about the inner workings of broadcast, though there is always space to learn more as the industry continues to evolve. It’s incredibly rewarding to help create that same sense of magic for others.
Can you tell us about a project you have worked on during your time at Nevion that you are most proud of?
It’s a little different for my department as we support projects that have already been implemented. Customers might have some issues with their current setup, and we help them fix it. Longstanding implementations might also need upgrades as new features are released. So the way I see it is that every ticket raised is a mini project in itself, and all of them are interesting and satisfying to work on.
What is your favorite thing about working for Nevion?
For me, it’s customer satisfaction. A simple thank you is the best feedback to receive. We build really close relationships with our customers and I’ve made some great friends along the way. I also get the chance to work with devices that I would never otherwise have access to, such as video and audio mixers, cameras and streaming devices. There are so many technology options out there that can be applied to a variety of different situations.
What new technology/ innovation excites you the most in the broadcasting world?
From my perspective, customer support cases have become a lot more advanced and complex than when I started at Nevion. Customers are now mainly contacting us about the more complicated problems as they can fix the simpler issues themselves. But it’s good news because it suggests our customers are reaping more of the many benefits our systems provide, and long may that continue!
