Nevion, a leader in transporting media from the camera to the home, has been recognized in the IBC Innovation Award for Content Management that was won by Sky News Arabia for its Project SkyNet platform. The platform, powered by Nevion’s Flashlink, is a disaster-recovery network that can be accessed and controlled over the internet from any of Sky News Arabia’s 20 bureaux across the Middle East and allows them to broadcast and transmit live programming and breaking news from anywhere.
Nevion supplied its much trusted Flashlink optical transport, signal processing and distribution system to Project SkyNet to control the platform remotely when required. The solution included Nevion’s UDC format converters with complete processing amplifier functions to process the incoming feeds from the bureau, as well as 3G/HD/SD-SDI change-over that provides programmable and automatic switching for critical applications.
“As a supplier of network equipment for Project Skynet, we’re obviously very pleased to see that this project has won an IBC Innovation Award, which we feel is one of the most prestigious accolades in the industry,”, said Nick Pywell, VP Sales Europe and the Middle East at Nevion.
The IBC Innovation Award winners were announced at IBC2014 in Amsterdam and honour, not just technical ingenuity, but the way that the technology is used in the real world, bringing tangible creative and commercial benefits to a project.
A pioneer in media transport, Nevion provides network and broadcast infrastructure to broadcasters, telecommunication service providers, government agencies and other industries. It enables the transport and management of professional-quality video, audio and data – in real time, reliably and securely – from the camera to the home.
