Nevion expands VideoIPath integration capabilities with new External Driver API
Planned for the 2026 LTS release, the new API will let customers and partners develop equipment drivers for VideoIPath
Oslo, Norway, 1 September, 2026 – Nevion, a Sony group company, announced today a major upcoming enhancement to its VideoIPath media orchestration platform: a new External Driver API. Planned for the VideoIPath 2026 LTS release, the API is designed to make it easier for third parties to extend VideoIPath’s already broad support for broadcast, network and monitoring equipment. This is particularly important for the broadcast control capability of VideoIPath (OPERATE), enabling it to support the wide and growing range of equipment found in typical production environments.
A key component of Sony’s Networked Live, VideoIPath uniquely combines broadcast control, vendor-agnostic orchestration and media-aware monitoring in a single platform. Its capabilities can be deployed together or individually as VideoIPath Operate, VideoIPath Orchestrate and VideoIPath Monitor, helping broadcasters, media companies and telecom service providers manage hybrid SDI and IP workflows across facilities, outside broadcast environments, contribution networks, distributed production and cloud-connected operations.
The new External Driver API allows customers, system integrators and technology partners to create their own dedicated drivers for specialist equipment and workflows. These drivers can be used across VideoIPath’s broadcast control, orchestration and monitoring capabilities, helping users connect a wider range of devices and systems to the platform without relying solely on productized integrations from Nevion and Sony.
VideoIPath already supports a wide range of standard and dedicated interfaces. On the southbound side, these include standards such as NMOS for media devices and OpenConfig, NetConf/YANG and other interfaces for IP network control, alongside dedicated drivers for broadcast equipment, IP switches and cloud services. On the northbound side, VideoIPath offers integration with external systems, control surfaces and workflows through interfaces such as REST API, Ember+, NS-BUS and other established broadcast protocols.
By opening the driver development model, Nevion is giving customers and partners more flexibility to support project-specific equipment, niche devices and evolving technology requirements. Drivers can be developed in the programming language that best suits the implementation and the existing environment. This helps accelerate deployments, simplify onboarding and reduce integration risk, particularly in complex multi-vendor systems.

The External Driver API is planned for inclusion in the VideoIPath 2026 LTS release. Further details will be made available closer to release.
